Producer of Bones Files Lawsuit Against Fox

Producer of Bones Files Lawsuit Against Fox picThe television show Bones is one of Fox’s longest-running hour-long dramas. Barry Josephson, executor producer of the show, claims that he has been cheated out of his share of the profits.

Last fall, Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch and Peter Rice, some of the top 21 st Century fox executives, joined the cast and crew of Bones to celebrate its 200 th episode. Sadly, the Murdochs and Rice are not as joyful due to the lawsuit Josephson filed against Fox network, parent of studio 20 th Century Fox Television.

In addition to claiming he was cheated out of profits, Josephson alleges he was “fraudulently threatened” by Rice and other executives into accepting a reduced license fee from Fox. He states that if he didn’t accept the lower license fee, he was threatened with immediate cancellation of Bones.

Josephson filed the litigation in Los Angeles Superior Court and, according to The Hollywood Reporter , sought unspecified damages for breach of contract, fraudulent inducement and several other claims.

Josephson has been with the television show for 11 seasons, which includes over 206 episodes. He alleges he discovered the book on which Bones is based and brought it to Fox. He also claims he casted Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz as the stars, as well as served as the executive producer for every episode.

Josephson’s complaint alleges, among numerous other things that Fox underreported millions of dollars in revenue as revealed in an audit he requested in the initial seven seasons of the show. “Simply put, the audit uncovered a veritable mother lode of accounting chicanery and self-dealing,” his lawsuit claims. In sum, the complaint seeks damages for breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, intentional interference with contract, unfair competition, fraudulent inducement, declaratory relief and accounting.
